U Releases Timeline Of Events Leading Up To Teague's Resignation
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota has released a timeline of events after the alleged sexual harassment that led to former athletic director Norwood Teague's resignation.
The incidents happened at a senior leadership retreat three weeks before Teague's resignation was made public. And Teague told the university he planned to resign, two days before an external investigation was to start.
On July 16, Ann Aronson and Erin Dady, both members of President Eric Kaler's senior leadership team, reported sexual harassment claims against the then athletic director. The sexually graphic text messages and inappropriate touching allegedly happened on July 17.
The following day, Kaler met separately with the women and with Teague. He also informed the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action office of the claims.
Aronson and Dady were interviewed, respectively, on July 22 and July 23.
The following Monday, July 27, Kaler informed Teague the EOAA will hire an outside investigator to look into the allegations.
That same week, the women were told the external investigation will start if Teague doesn't resign by Aug. 3.
On Aug. 1, Teague told Kaler he planned to resign.
During the week between that conversation and making his resignation public, the university developed a transition plan and prepared records to make public.
Teague submitted his resignation letter on Aug. 6. The following day, Kaler announced his resignation, saying, "This is the action of a person who made a bad decision, not actions of Gopher athletics."
Teague admitted he "behaved badly toward nice people," blaming alcohol, and said he is getting help and treatment for alcohol abuse.
