U of M Governing Board Election To Choose New Members
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Legislators are preparing to appoint more than one-third of the University of Minnesota's governing board.
House and Senate lawmakers will tap five people for the Board of Regents in an election Wednesday night. The board is a key decision-making body at the state's flagship university.
Candidates include a regent vying for a rare third term and the board's current chair eying his second. The other five hopefuls are newcomers, and the field could grow.
Regents serve unpaid six-year terms. They set university policy and oversee the president.
Democratic support could make the difference for the seats representing Minnesota's 1st and 3rd Congressional Districts. DFL lawmakers have a 1-vote edge in this year's selection process.
