U Of M Gets More Money For Alcohol At TCF Stadium
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials with the University of Minnesota announced Wednesday they've no longer lost money on the sale of alcohol for Gophers football games at TCF Bank Stadium.
That's because the athletic department and its food and beverage provider, Aramark, have amended their contract. Aramark will pay the university an additional $37,000 for the 2012 season. That turns a loss of about $16,000 into a gain of around $21,000.
Officials said combined alcohol sales between TCF Bank Stadium, Mariucci Arena and Williams Arena for the 2012-13 school year came out to a $42,000 profit. The original contract called for a 22.5 percent commission on alcohol sales in premium and general seating areas.
After a review of the contract, the university will still get 22.5 percent commission from the premium seating area, but the commission from general seating goes up to 35 percent on the first $475,000 in alcohol sales revenue and 40 percent on sales above that.
Officials said if the 2013 figures stay on track with what happened this year, the university should get a net profit of about $110,000.
