U Of M: 6 Arrested Following Robbery, Assault On Campus
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota says six suspects were arrested following a robbery and assault of two victims on the East Bank campus early Saturday morning.
At 2 a.m. Saturday, the university says a male victim was walking southbound along the east side of Harvard Street near Beacon Street Southeast when a female suspect approached, asked about his phone, grabbed it and ran toward a group of 10 to 12 other people.
When the victim chased after the female suspect, he was assaulted by members of the group. The victim's friend, who attempted to assist, was also assaulted and then robbed of his wallet.
University of Minnesota police officers responded to the area and arrested six suspects. One was identified as being a part of the assault and was arrested. The other five suspects were identified and it's unclear if they remain in custody.
There may have been 10 to 12 total suspects, so anyone with additional information is asked to call university police at 612-624-2677 and reference case number UM-14-387887.
The incident is being investigated.
