Twins To Turn Back The Night For 1951 Millers
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins will honor their home city's previous professional team with a special turn-back-the-clock game this summer.
The Twins announced their slate of giveaways and promotions on Monday.
When they host the Kansas City Royals at Target Field on Saturday night, June 30, the Twins will wear uniforms of the 1951 Minneapolis Millers, the Triple-A team that played at Nicollet Park on the city's south side. Future Hall of Fame outfielder Willie Mays played on that 1951 team as a 20-year-old before being called up to the majors by the New York Giants, who later moved to San Francisco.
The Royals will wear uniforms of the Kansas City Blues, who played in the American Association with the Millers for decades before the city gained a Major League Baseball franchise.
