Twins' Ramirez Leaves After Hit By Pick-Off Throw
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins outfielder Wilkin Ramirez left the game against the Los Angeles Angels in the fifth inning after being hit in the back with a pickoff attempt.
Ramirez picked up his second single of the game with two outs in the inning and was leading off first base when Angels right-hander Jerome Williams tried to pick him off. The errant throw appeared to first hit Ramirez above his shoulder blades before riding up and striking him in the head.
Ramirez lay on the ground for a minute as team trainers and manager Ron Gardenhire came to check on him. He was able to get up and leave under his own power and was replaced by Eduardo Escobar.
The Twins say Ramirez is day to day with a back contusion.
