Twins Make Last Push Toward Post Season
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The Minnesota Twins will wind down the regular season this weekend and the team is fighting its way to the post-season.
The Twins are one game behind the Houston Astros for the second wild card spot. Thanks to Thursday night's win in Cleveland, they're now tied with the Los Angeles Angels.
Inside Target Field, pre-game preparations were the same as any other series. Outside the stadium was a different story. Ticket lines were much longer than the average game.
"Go Twins! Beat those Royals and let's get into the playoffs," said Twins fan David Plout.
For the first time in four years, Twins fans know the post season is a possibility.
"I think it's going to be exciting," fan Matt Stengel said. "The whole fan base is really excited, and I can't wait to see how they play tonight."
Some credit this season's turnaround on the new management style of Paul Molitor. Others credit the return of one popular player.
"Everybody loves Torii -- players, fans alike," said Michael Holliday, a Twins Fan.
Torii Hunter's presence hasn't just been felt during the game; his off-field antics have helped unite the team.
"They don't let me in there for those dance parties. I'm not part of that, which is probably a good thing," said Twins General Manager Terry Ryan. "He's been a godsend for this club."
And then there's the up-and-comers like Tyler Duffy, who, fans say, have given the team this final push.
"I'm excited, I'm excited, that's for sure," said Duffy, as he signed autographs.
"They don't look afraid at all," Ryan said. "It's a good thing when you see guys in their early 20s, and they go out and look like they belong."
Minnesota fans know not to celebrate early but, at Target Field, there's already that post-season feel.
"I expect a packed house and playoff atmosphere," Stengel said.
The first pitch is at 7:10 p.m. Tickets to the final series of the regular season are still available.
