Former Twin Justin Morneau Signs With White Sox
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A former Minnesota Twins star is back in the American League Central Division and now playing for a rival.
The Chicago White Sox announced Thursday that they've signed Justin Morneau to a one-year contract, worth a reported $1 million. Morneau had spent the last two seasons with the Colorado Rockies. He played in 49 games last year and hit .310 with three homers and 15 RBI.
Morneau has struggled through concussion issues and retired after the Rockies bought out the remainder of his contract before the season. He is currently still recovering from having left elbow surgery and will be placed on the disabled list.
Morneau is a four-time All-Star and won the AL MVP award with the Twins in 2006. He was with the Twins from 2003 to 2013 and became a fan favorite. The Twins travel to Chicago to face the White Sox in a three-game series June 28-30. Morneau's first trip back to Minnesota would be a three-game set, July 29-31.
The Twins traded Morneau to Pittsburgh during the 2013 season, and he signed with the Rockies after that season. He won the National League batting title in 2014.
