Twins' Mauer, Kepler Share American League Player Of Week Award
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Joe Mauer and Max Kepler each had big weeks as the Minnesota Twins went 5-2 on a seven-game road trip.
They had equally impressive enough road trips that they were named the American League Co-Players of the Week on Monday.
Kepler started his big week in a big way with three home runs last Monday in a 12-5 win over Cleveland. He had six RBI with the three homers. He also hit a home run the following day as the Twins beat the Indians 10-6. For the road trip, Kepler hit .370 (10-for-27) with for homers and 11 RBI.
He's now hitting .259 on the season with 15 homers and 49 RBI.
For the seven-game road trip, Mauer hit .560 (14-for-25) with one homer, one triple, six doubles and nine RBI. He improved his average to .280 for the season.
The Twins won three of four games at Cleveland, then took two of three against Tampa Bay and are now 45-66 on the season. That's eight games behind Kansas City for fourth place in the American League Central Division.
The Twins host the Astros for a three-game series starting Monday at Target Field.
