Twins Honor Troops With 'Seats for Soldiers,' Pregame
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Not much is more American than a hot dog and outdoor baseball game.
So it's no surprise the Minnesota Twins and their fans wanted to take Saturday to salute the troops on Armed Services Appreciation Day.
Photojournalist Tony Peterson was there to capture the excitement.
Twins fans saluted veterans, and those that gave their lives in battle were honored on the big screen.
"I think it's important to that on this Independence Day holiday that we take a moment to really just step away from the barbecue, the boats, the fishing and the skiing and really pay homage to what this day means," said Kevin Smith, the Twins executive director of public affairs.
Many season ticket holders and suite owners donated their tickets to military families so they could enjoy Saturday's game.
According to the Twins, U.S. Bank donated 1,000 ticket to active and retired service members.
