Twins GM Talks Mauer's Injury, Sickness

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- Twins general manager Bill Smith said Friday that catcher Joe Mauer went to a hospital for treatment and evaluation after suffering from "extreme flu-like symptoms."
Mauer was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of bilateral leg weakness stemming from off season arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
"It's unfortunate, but it is certainly the right thing to do," said Smith, referring to both the injury and illness.
Mauer is scheduled for a follow up visit to a doctor in Baltimore, who treated Mauer's lower back problem that put him on the disabled list for a month in 2009.
