Twins Fans Gear Up For Home Opener
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It's a new season, which means plenty of excitement for baseball fans at Target Field.
The baseball season opens Monday here as the Minnesota Twins face the Detroit Tigers at 3:10 p.m. Vance Worley, acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies for Denard Span, will get the start for the Twins. Justin Verlander, one of the best pitchers in baseball who just signed a $180 million contract extension, will be the Tigers' starting pitcher.
Fans who are going to the game will definitely need to bundle up. Game time temperatures are expected to be in the low to middle 30s, and with the wind it will feel like it's in the 20s.
"I know in colder weather states like Minnesota everybody's ready to get out and watch some baseball outdoors but it's still a little chilly for my liking," said Twins player Chris Parmelee.
It's the fourth year the Twins have called Target Field home, but it's the first time they've hosted their season opener. They've spent the last month and a half at spring training in sunny Fort Myers, Fla.
The gates will open at 1 p.m. Monday, and Twins officials said a limited number of tickets are still available. Fans can come early and get their faces painted in Twins colors, and those in Minneapolis early in the morning can come by Target Field for a free breakfast.
