Twins Fans Excited For Home Opener

By Susie Jones, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Thousands of fans are expected to attend the 2011 Twins Home Opener, with the Twins taking on the Oakland Athletics.

"Things are looking great," said Twins spokesman Kevin Smith.

The grounds crew and operations staff has been working around the clock to get it all ready. The gates open at noon.

Smith said the field is in great shape after a long cold winter.

"We've had those tarps on and off several times in the month of March. You remember last year, we didn't have a flake of snow in the month of March," he said.

Smith says the fans are ready to go too. He says they know where they want to go for their favorite food.

There will be plenty of pregame festivities as well, with the unveiling of a new Tony Oliva statue taking place at 11:30 a.m. on the plaza.

The first pitch is set for 3:10 p.m.
