Twins' Brian Dozier Fills Last-Minute Slot On All-Star Roster

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Despite falling short in a round of voting Friday, Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier will play in the All-Star game after all, the MLB announced Saturday afternoon.

Dozier will be replacing Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista, who will skip the game to receive treatment on a sore shoulder. Dozier himself heard the news the same way many Twins fans did -- over the PA system at Target Field during Saturday's afternoon game against the Detroit Tigers.

Twins fans launched a Twitter voting campaign for Dozier to fill an All-Star slot for the American League, which he lost to Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas.

Dozier has held an impressive season so far, batting .259 with 19 home runs, according to BaseballReference.com.
