Twins Blog: Rock Bottom In April?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It can't get much worse, can it? The Tampa Bay Rays just embarrassed the Twins at Target Field, outscoring them 29-6 in a three-game sweep, as fans endured snow, rain and chilly winds.
After 24 games, the injury-plagued Twins are last in the American League in team batting average (.236), home runs (10) and runs scored (77). The pitching staff is also near the bottom with a team ERA of 4.95. They have a 9-15 record and are seven games behind the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central Division.
As we wait for Joe Mauer, Delmon Young, Tsuyoshi Nishioka, Joe Nathan and Kevin Slowey to get back to full strength, we know there are still 138 games left to play – and other teams that are doing well now will go through their own rough patches.
It was only a few weeks ago that fans of the Rays were reaching for the "panic" button. Their team started the season 1-8 and plunged to the cellar of the American League eastern division. The Rays have since gone 13-3 and are breathing down the necks of the Yankees.
The Twins have plenty of time to help us forget their miserable month of April.
