Twin Cities To Duluth Drive A Headache This Summer
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- The Interstate 35 freeway between the Twin Cities and Duluth isn't exactly flowing freely these days.
The Duluth News-Tribune reports Saturday that there are no less than 10 areas of road construction in the roughly 150-mile stretch. Several spots are down to a single lane in each direction, and Department of Transportation officials say that during peak times the roughly two-hour drive can take twice that.
Fridays and Sundays are the worst. MnDOT engineer Mike Tardy says travelers should particularly try to avoid the stretch on Sunday afternoons and early evenings, especially heading south.
MnDOT says the majority of the repairs are slated to be complete this fall but that related projects along that part of the freeway are scheduled to continue for the next three years.
