Twin Cities Postal Workers Protest Outside Office Supply Retailer
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Union postal workers are protesting outside Staples stores in the Twin Cities due to an agreement reached between the U.S Postal Service and the chain of office supply stores, which would put outlets in the retailer.
Jerry Sirois, president of the local union, says they have a number of concerns about protecting the sanctity of the mail.

"If somebody brings their mail to the store, it wouldn't be considered mail until the mail carrier picked it up, so it wouldn't enjoy the protections of the postal service," Sirois said.
There is also concern about the closure of post offices. Right now, there are procedures in place to notify the public when a location is to be closed.
With retail outlets in Staples, there would be no requirements before closing a post office inside one of the stores.
