Twin Cities Janitors Protest, Call For Better Wages
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Janitors who clean a number of big businesses across the Twin Cities went on strike early Tuesday morning.
Workers from the Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en la Lucha (CTUL) union walked off the job at 6 a.m. and began picketing outside Minneapolis' downtown Macy's.
According to CTUL, the workers are calling for higher wages, better benefits and better working conditions.
CTUL said the strike also comes just weeks after a lawsuit was filed claiming wage theft by big box stores in the Twin Cities.
The picket line was comprised of janitors from over 50 stores in the Twin Cities, including Macy's, Sears, Home Depot, Lund & Byerlys and Herberger's.
