Twin Citians Prepare To Party Down On New Year's Eve
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Twin Cities' residents have a variety of ideas of how to celebrate this New Year's Eve. WCCO found party planners everywhere, from the liquor stores to the swimming pools.
We found some folks sampling bourbon at Surdyk's Liquor Monday morning, while others were sipping wine. None of the shoppers seemed to be worried about the fiscal cliff, at least not tonight.
"We have some family in town; we have some friends that live out of state who are back in town to see their family for the holidays. They're staying with us, so we're going to go get a nice dinner and just hopefully have a low-key night," said one shopper.
Melissa Surdyk of Surdyk's Liquor says they sell more sparkling wine for New Year's Eve than the rest of the year combined.
"We're open til 10 p.m. tonight, so an extra hour than a normal Monday, and yes we have more staff that's scheduled for this holiday season," Surdyk said.
A New Year's Eve party was in full swing this afternoon at the Inver Grove Heights' water park. One of the goals of this early shindig, according to Chrissy O'Brien, was to zap the energy of some youngsters.
"We're here to wear the kids out a little bit before we go to a celebration tonight, so that we have well-behaved tired children at the adult and family celebration," O'Brien said.
The balloons, disco lights and dance floor are all ready at Moose Country in Mendota Heights. Ryan Schaefer says they expect 450 people for the festivities.
"Between here and our other restaurant on Grand Avenue, the Wild Onion, we've been doing this for a couple of years, and historically it's one of our biggest nights of the year," Schaefer said.
Psycho Suzi's Motor Lounge in northeast Minneapolis is having a New Year's Eve Shangri-La Cocktail Party, while Epic in downtown Minneapolis is holding its Midnight in Morocco Party - featuring fire performers and belly dancing.
And Buck Hill in Burnsville is hosting a bash where you can ski, ride or tube until midnight.
