TV Sales Jump Leading Up To Super Bowl Sunday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- On Sunday, sports fans will be huddling around a big screen TV to watch the Super Bowl, which could help explain the surge in TV sales this week.
The National Retail Federation said around 7.7 million TVs are sold in the week leading up to the Super Bowl, the most popular being 50 inches or bigger.
"We just wanted something large and something with high quality," John Heim from Eden Prairie said.
Big screen TVs are discounted at around five to 10 percent in the week leading up TV's biggest night of the year.
"Whether you're looking to get a large TV or the latest and greatest in TV technologies, we have a lot of deals going on right now," Best Buy Home Theater Supervisor Melissa Douglas said.
4K TVs are popular right now. The SONY 55-inch 4K is on sale for $3,500. It allows you to watch the big game with four times the clarity and sound.
"The detail, color on that is just crazy good," Douglas said.
If you're looking for something less expensive but with great quality, a smart TV might be your best bet.
"We'll direct them to something that is going to have a faster processor just to watch it and get the full action of that game," Douglas said.
Smart TVs tend to offer faster processing. The Sharp 60-inch LE650 has a faster processor than standard HD TV, and is on sale for $950.
Now your only challenge might be deciding who to cheer on.
"My team is not playing this weekend so not too excited," Heim said. "But my picture will still be good and we'll be watching the game."
