Tributes Across Nation, State 10 Years After 9/11
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Tributes across the nation and the state honored all that's happened in 10 years since the Twin Towers fell on Sept. 11, 2001.
Silence at 8:46 this morning in New York City. The precise time American Flight 11 flew into the North World Trade Tower. Where the towers once stood are now twin rectangles of granite and cascading waterfalls.
Two Presidents and their wives stood together before the 2983 names inscribed along the perimeter of the memorial site.
Memorials in Shanksville, Pa., where 40 died there after passengers, including Bloomington's Tom Burnett Junior, said "Let's Roll" and heroically brought down United Flight 93.
At the Pentagon, taps was played for the 184 people killed. Since that date, nearly 3 million Americans have volunteered for military service.
Throughout the nation and in Minnesota flags were at half-staff. At Minneapolis City Hall there was a giant flag flying, honoring first responders.
At Coon Rapids High School, a C130 flyover where thousands came to a ceremony put on by the fire department.
At the Minnesota State Capitol, the religious, the artistic and the political stood together. To remember. To heal. And to look ahead with hope.
