Trial To Begin For Husband Of Slain Minn. Reporter
SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) -- Opening statements will be heard Tuesday in the trial of a Minnesota man accused of killing his wife while the couple was going through a divorce.
Police found the body of 45-year-old reporter Ruth Anne Maddox in her condo's garage in November 2008. Her husband, 45-year-old Charles Maddox Jr., admitted killing her but said he did it in self-defense.
Maddox's trial in Scott County had to wait for an appellate court to settle disputes over evidence that could be shown to a jury.
Prosecutors wanted to display potentially embarrassing emails they said Ruth Anne Maddox had found on her husband's computer and threatened to use against him. The appellate court said they couldn't be shown immediately, but might be shown in redacted form later depending on how the trial goes.
