Treatment Center Patient Charged With Attempted Murder Of Mother
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 48-year-old St. Peter Treatment Center patient has been charged with attempted murder and assault after police say he stabbed his mother several times, leaving her in critical condition.
Burton James Ewing was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault for the incident on Tuesday.
The Nicollet County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a man stabbing a woman at Seven Mile Park around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies arrested Ewing, who was allegedly stabbing his mother, identified as 69-year-old Marlys Helen Olson of Coon Rapids.
Olson was airlifted from the scene with multiple stab wounds to her neck, chest and back. She is currently in critical condition.
According to the criminal complaint, Ewing admitted to stabbing his mother with a steak knife while she was sitting in a vehicle. He admitted to police that she did nothing to provoke the attack.
Ewing told investigators he planned to kill his mother during their visit and had been planning it for some time. He said he planned to leave her body at Seven Mile Park.
According to Patrice Vick from the Minnesota Department Of Health Services, Ewing was allowed off-campus liberties and had a pass to be with his mother at the time of the incident.
Ewing is currently in Nicollet County Jail.
