Travel & Leisure: MSP Airport Best In The Nation
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Travel and Leisure Magazine has dubbed the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport the best airport in America, citing the travel hub's mall-like design, cleanliness and, of course, its welcoming Midwestern atmosphere.
The magazine's readers rated the nation's 22 major airports in the following categories: flight delays, design, amenities, restaurants, check-in and security, service, and transportation and location.
Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) won particular praise for its shopping and dining choices. The article described it as a "mini-mall of an airport."
MSP also took the blue ribbon for ease of check-in and security. It took second place in the categories of design, cleanliness, baggage handling, staff communication, and airport location.
The only category in which MSP scored poorly (eleventh place) was in its pay-for-service Wi-Fi. However, the Metropolitan Airports Commission said MSP might have free Wi-Fi service by the year's end.
Jeff Hamiel, the executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, said it was gratifying to learn that fliers think highly of MSP.
"Our goal...is to provide our customers the best airport experience in North America. For MSP to be voted America's best airport by readers of a major travel magazine is an indication we're on the right track," he said.
