Winter Getaway Deals Still Available
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Airlines are keeping busy with people booking trips left and right for warm weather destinations.
That, and a little more consumer confidence, has travel agencies seeing an uptick in business. Ellen Noyes is a travel agent at Acendas Travel.
"People in Minnesota think it's their right to get away in the winter," Noyes said.
And they aren't shy about it. Acendas started booking winter vacations as early as the end of July, and they are still taking off.
"For going in January and February there would be very, very good pricing. Because there is still air left out there," she said.
One deal is $840 for an all-inclusive seven nights in Puerta Vallarta, which has non-stop flights from MSP every day.
Another option is a new destination offered up by Sun Country. Should you want to venture to Huatulco in southern Mexico, you should plan to spend just over $1,000 for airfare and transportation at an all-inclusive resort.
"Huatulco is a new destination in Mexico that's very reasonably priced, and we have great non-stop flights there for a week-long vacation," she said.
Noyes said spring break has booked fast, but there is still plenty open for January and February getaways. Noyes recommends comparing prices online with travel agencies to get the best deal. And once you do, book it right away.
"I don't think the fire sales we used to see of $99 airfare are going to be around. That concept of waiting until the last minute, unless you are really, really flexible, you're not going to see that because the airlines are filling their aircraft day in and day out," she said.
Noyes said there are good deals for places closer to home like San Diego and Fort Meyers. She also said that business has gone up 20 percent each year since 2009.
Noyes said 2008-2009 were some of the worst ever for travel.
