Traffic Switch Occurs Overnight In Twin Cities
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Motorists will experience delays and probably a few headaches because of a lane switch that will happen overnight, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The center lane of eastbound I-94 between Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue and Highway 280 in the Twin Cities will reopen, but the outside lane will close Tuesday night. An additional left lane will be closed for the switch starting at 7:30 p.m.
Other lanes will close from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. Wednesday. All lanes will be back open in time for the Wednesday morning commute as construction crews work on striping lanes and setting up barriers.
MnDOT officials said motorists should be ready to use a newly constructed center lane of eastbound I-94 Wednesday morning. A small portion of the center lane on eastbound I-94 will still be closed near Highway 280. The westbound center lane of I-94 will remain closed, but a switch is in the works in the next couple of weeks.
The closures are part of a construction project to improve I-94 between downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul.
