With Some Twists, Traditional St. Patrick's Day Parades Return To Twin Cities
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's St. Patrick's Day, and the luck of the Irish will once again be flowing through the Twin Cities.
Two years ago, the pandemic shut down a Twin Cities tradition. This year, the St. Patrick's Day parade in St. Paul is back. And, even better is the fact that temperatures are above freezing.
The parade was canceled in 2020. Last year, it was held as a drive-thru parade. This year, the normal celebrations are taking place. The only difference is the usual parade route is actually reversed this year so it starts in Rice Park.
The post-parade party will be at CHS Field. That starts at 12:30 p.m. and will feature live music, Irish dancers, and food and drinks.
People WCCO talked with were excited for a return to a tradition.
"Just the energy and excitement everybody has means a lot," Kevin Flanagan, of St. Paul, said.
Tickets at the CHS Field are $5 in advance or $10 at the door.
The Minneapolis parade is moving to Columbia Heights this year. It starts at 6 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of 40th Avenue Northeast and Van Buren Street.
