Timberwolves' Towns Named Western Conference Player Of The Week
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Karl-Anthony Towns has been named Western Conference player of the week.
The NBA announced the award for Towns on Monday. The No. 1 overall pick averaged 21.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks to help the Timberwolves to a surprising 3-0 road trip against Golden State, Sacramento and Portland. Towns capped the trip with a game-winning shot to beat the Trail Blazers on Saturday night.
He also had 20 points and 12 boards in Minnesota's overtime win over the Warriors.
Towns is the eighth player in franchise history to win the award. He's the first rookie in the NBA to do it since Philadelphia's Michael Carter-Williams in 2013-14.
The Timberwolves host the Houston Rockets on Monday night.
