Towering Twins Pitcher Kyle Gibson Hopes To Ditch Injury Issue
FORT MYERS, Fla. (WCCO) -- Kyle Gibson just looks like a major league pitcher.
At 6-foot-6-inches tall, and 210 pounds, he has all the right stuff to make it big in the majors.
Now it's a matter of trust – trust that the injuries to his right arm are behind him.
A stress fracture suffered in college while at Missouri dropped him to 22nd overall in the 2009 draft. And then came the dreaded Tommy John surgery in 2011.
His fast-track to the majors had been derailed, but he's not playing the "woe is me card." He's enjoying every moment on the road back this spring.
"Back when I had the surgery in 2011, my goal was to be ready for spring training 2013," Gibson said. "I'm ready to go where ever they send me."
Pitching coach Rick Anderson saw his staff implode last April. He preaches patience with Gibson, but knows he has that something special that this staff needs.
"He's been very impressive, the way he's been throwing the ball," Anderson said. "And it's nice to have him healthy."
