Tow Driver In Serious Condition After Being Hit By 2 Cars
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A tow truck driver from St. Paul is in serious condition after leaping over a freeway wall in Minneapolis to avoid a crash and then being struck by two other vehicles.
The State Patrol says the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday as the driver, identified as 38-year-old Trevor Allison, was loading a disabled vehicle onto the back of his truck on eastbound Interstate 94, near the Riverside Avenue intersection.
Due to the interstate's narrow shoulder, Allison's truck was partially in the left-most lane.
As he was working, Allison saw a car coming straight for his truck, which had its lights flashing. The car, a 2012 Nissan driven by 60-year-old Moua Vang of St. Paul, slammed into the back of the tow truck.
To avoid the collision, Allison jumped over the short freeway wall and onto the westbound lanes of the interstate, the State Patrol said.
There, one driver tried to swerve to miss Allison, but he was knocked into the center lane, where he was then hit directly by another car.
The State Patrol says Allison suffered significant injuries and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment.
Officials at the hospital say he remained in serious condition on Tuesday.
There have been two Go Fund Me accounts set up to help Allison and his family with medical expenses. To donate to the first, click here. To donate to the second, click here.
A spokesperson for the State Patrol says citations could be issued in this incident.
