Tommies Blog: St. Thomas Shuts Out Augsburg 17-0
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – In a battle of unbeaten teams in Minneapolis Saturday afternoon, a stingy defense led St. Thomas to a 17-0 win at Augsburg in MIAC football action.
The Tommies, now 6-0 and ranked No. 3 in Division III, limited talented Auggies' quarterback Marcus Brumm to just 136 yards passing, no touchdowns and intercepted him once. Tyler Maxwell ran for 114 yards on the ground, but didn't score.
Fritz Waldvogel caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from Dakota Tracy to put the Tommies up 7-0 early in the second quarter. St. Thomas took that lead into the locker room before adding a Tim Albright field goal early in the third quarter to take a 10-0 lead.
Tracy then faked a handoff and ran untouched for a 50-yard touchdown with four minutes left in the game to give the Tommies a 17-0 lead and put the game away.
Tracy passed for 154 yards, one touchdown and had an interception in the win. He also ran for 124 yards. Colin Tobin was a busy man with 32 carries for 155 yards on the day. Waldvogel finished with seven catches for 110 yards and a touchdown.
St. Thomas (6-0) hosts Hamline for homecoming Saturday at O'Shaughnessy Stadium in St. Paul.
