Tommies Blog: St. Thomas Advances In Playoffs, 48-2
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The wintry conditions definitely played a factor in St. Paul on Saturday as St. Thomas hosted St. Scholastica in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs, but the team that handled it the best would move on.
The Tommies, ranked No. 3 in the nation, ran away in the second half with a 48-2 victory over the Saints at O'Shaughnessy Stadium to advance. St. Scholastica got its only points of the game on the opening kickoff with a safety.
St. Thomas led 20-2 at the half and used a dominant rushing attack to get the win. Colin Tobin led the Tommies with 207 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. St. Thomas added two other rushing touchdowns in the win.
The St. Thomas run defense, ranked No. 2 nationally, allowed just 14 yards rushing in the game.
The Tommies will remain at home next week and play Monmouth College of Illinois, who beat Illinois Wesleyan 33-27 on Saturday.
