Tommies Blog: St. Thomas 7-0 After 49-0 Rout Of Hamline
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – For the second time in three weeks, the St. Thomas football team pretty much had things wrapped up by halftime in a MIAC victory.
The Tommies had a 42-0 lead over Hamline at halftime and finished off homecoming week with a 49-0 win over the Pipers to improve to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the MIAC. It's also their fifth game this season where they've scored at least 45 points in a victory.
Dakota Tracy passed for 139 yards and two touchdowns in the victory, with both of his touchdowns going to Fritz Waldvogel, who had six catches for 56 yards in the win. Freshman Matt O'Connell saw action as early as the second quarter in place of Tracy. He passed for one touchdown and also ran for another.
The Tommies scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters and never looked back. Hamline was held scoreless for the fourth straight week. The Pipers had just 21 yards of total offense in the first half.
Will Baregi led the St. Thomas defense with four tackles, including two sacks.
St. Thomas, ranked No. 3 in the nation, travels to Bethel next week. The Royals, who beat Gustavus 41-27 on Saturday, are also highly-ranked and knocked the Tommies out of the NCAA Playoffs last year. If you can't make it to the game, tune into WCCO Radio 830 AM as Dave Lee and Eric Nelson will have the call. You can also find a live stream of the game at wcco.com.
