Tips On How To Successfully Cast Your Ballot
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - More than 3 million Minnesotans are expected to vote in Tuesday's election. Minnesota is proud to lead the nation in voter turnout.
There are things you should know in order to cast a successful ballot on Election Day.
If you pre-register, the rules are the same this year as they have been in years past.
Beth Fraser, director of governmental affairs in the secretary of state's office says pre-registering is simple.
"You don't need to bring anything with you, you'll just tell the election judge your name and address," Fraser said.
But if you didn't pre-register - no worries. If you bring the proper identification with you, you too can vote.
"You need to bring proof that you live in the precinct. And most voters use an updated Minnesota driver's license or a state ID card with their name and current address," she said.
Military or school ID, passport or a utility bill can also be used to prove where you live.
"It has races for president, and US Senate, and US Congress, as well as the state legislature, constitutional amendments, local races as well as judicial offices," said Fraser.
If you're confused about where to go to mark your ballot, the secretary of state has put all that information together for you.
"We have a one-stop website where people can find out everything they need to know about the election," she said.
Log onto mnvotes.org and you will have access to the "Polling Place Finder" Tool. The website also has a "My Ballot" tool that gives you information about the candidates.
The polls open at 7 a.m. and stay open until 8 p.m. Tuesday night. As long as you are in line by 8 p.m., you can still vote.
