Tips For Keeping That Holiday Dinner In Check

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Enjoy Thanksgiving, but in moderation, local dietitians are saying.
Dietitians say the average Thanksgiving meal is more than 2,000 calories, which is what's recommended for a person to eat in an entire day.
Heidi Schmidt is the lead dietician for Health Partners JourneyWell. She said the most important thing is to watch portion sizes. If you have to overindulge on one thing, make it the turkey, she said.
"The lean protein in the turkey is going to be your best bet for keeping you satisfied and full, and not contributing to too many calories," Schmidt said.
Another bit of advice from Schmidt: give the leftovers away. She recommends giving the leftovers to the kids who will head back to college.
