Timberwolves Sign Lazar Hayward
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves signed Lazar Hayward on Monday to try and provide some depth to an injury hampered backcourt.
The Wolves acquired Hayward from Washington on draft night in 2010 and he played sparingly for them as a rookie. They traded him to Oklahoma City last December.
Minnesota was in the market for a player who could play both shooting guard and small forward after a rash of knee injuries. Josh Howard is out for the season, Malcolm Lee is out indefinitely and Chase Budinger isn't expected back until March. Brandon Roy is trying one more treatment on his chronic knee pain and likely won't be ready for a month.
Hayward has averaged 2.9 points in 8.2 minutes over two seasons.
