Timberwolves Rookie Kris Dunn's First Big Purchase Was A House For His Brother
One of the most commonly asked questions of young athletes who secure their first big contract is 'what's your first big purchase going to be?' Typical answers run the gamut from a new car, to a new house, ETC.
While many do - and deservedly so I might add - dote on themselves, many more like Minnesota Timberwolves rookie point guard Kris Dunn decide to give back to their family almost immediately before thinking of themselves.
In a piece published on ESPN.com, Ian Begley asked Dunn what his first big purchase was and Dunn told Begley that it was a house for his brother, who's starting a family.
Me and my brother, we've been through a lot growing up and he's starting a family. I think the best way to start a family is to have a nice home to create that family.
At first it [buying my brother a house] was exciting. Now it's just like, 'This is what I'm supposed to do.' He'd done a lot for me growing up, he was my first father before I actually met my father. So he deserves it. He's always been my greatest supporter, he's always helped me through the process so, really, he don't even have to say 'thank you.' I know he will, I know he's going to appreciate it, but it's just coming from my heart.
Dunn had a rough childhood and when Dunn's mother, Pia, ran away from his father and their home in Alexandria, Virginia when Dunn was just one year old, and his brother, John, filled the fatherhood role Dunn desperately needed.
So with the means to do so being the beneficiary of a Top 5 NBA draft pick's contract, he's paid his brother back in spades.
Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he'd gladly trade them for a championship for any of his other three teams.
