Timberwolves' Love Having Amazing Year
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves do not play until Sunday night in Cleveland when they battle the Lebron-less Cavaliers, which gives everybody plenty of time to marvel at the cartoon-like numbers being posted by Kevin Love.
It has been a breakout season for Love. The Wolves' young star is double-double trouble for opposing teams, averaging 20 points a game and an NBA-high 15 rebounds per game.
"I don't know what happened. I just ended up, you know, playing more minutes," said Love. "I'm playing hard every minute that I'm out there."
Love got on the NBA map for good in November, when he had a 31 point, 31 rebound game against New York. It was a historic performance, the first 30-30 performance in the association since 1982.
"That was amazing," said Lakers Forward Lamar Odom. "You hardly ever see 30-rebound games ... that was amazing."
Love is a monster on the glass and has a knack for getting rebounds. Love says positioning and tenacity are key, not necessarily jumping ability.
"I think a lot of it is mindset, you got to have a knack for the ball," said Love.
Michael Beasley needs some credit for Love's success. The addition of the explosive Beasley means opposing teams can't just focus on Love.
