Timberwolves' Kevin Love Named Nominee For US Olympic Team
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Timberwolves forward Kevin Love has been named as a nominee for the 12-man U.S. Olympic men's basketball team, according to USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo.
When asked about making the team, Love said his nomination was exciting and hard-earned.
"I'm the type of person that sets goals for myself, and I had been a part of USA Basketball for a long time, so I wouldn't say I expected myself to make it, but I definitely saw myself making it," he said. "I worked hard and did whatever I could the past few years. I represented myself in a good way and represented my country in a good way, so I felt I had a very good shot."
Love was a member of the 2010 USA World Championship team that won gold in Istanbul, Turkey. He is a two-time NBA All-Star Game selection, and became the third player in NBA history to average 25-plus points and 10-plus rebounds while making 50-plus three-pointers.
Among the other players nominated for the 2012 team include Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin and LeBron James
The U.S. basketball roster is pending final approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
