Timberwolves Extend Pekovic Qualifying Offer
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Timberwolves are plenty busy on the day of the NBA Draft, but it didn't stop them from acting on one of their current players.
The Timberwolves announced Thursday they've extended a qualifying offer to center Nikola Pekovic, which makes him a restricted free agent. Once the NBA Draft is over, Pekovic has the option to take the offer or become a restricted free agent.
Pekovic was a key player for the Timberwolves in the 2012-13 season, especially when Kevin Love was injured. Pekovic, 27, just finished his third season in the NBA averaging 16.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and more than 31 minutes per game.
Pekovic had a team-high 26 double-doubles this past season and had 11 games where he scored at least 20 points and grabbed at least 10 rebounds. For his career, he's averaging 11.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. The Timberwolves drafted Pekovic back in 2008.
