Threats Put Red Wing Schools On Lockdown
RED WING, Minn. (WCCO) – District officials said Wednesday morning that unspecified threats against Red Wing schools have put the district on lockdown for the day.
Officials said through a post on the school district web site there has been at least one unconfirmed threat against the school district, and suspicious items were found on a school bus Wednesday morning. All external doors at Red Wing schools are locked as a result for the entirety of the school day.
District officials said classes at all schools are proceeding as scheduled, but students will have to stay inside their schools for the day. The district said it's working with Red Wing Police to investigate the matter.
According to Red Wing Police, a high school senior in the district received a phone call Tuesday night where the caller said "your school is next" and hung up. The student reported the incident to police, who notified the Red Wing School District.
Police said Wednesday morning a student riding a bus found several .22-caliber long rifle rounds. It was reported to police and the school district. Police said another student on that bus came forward saying the rounds belonged to him, explaining that he had just returned from a coyote hunting trip and was carrying them on accident. Police believe the phone call threat and the bus incident are not related.
Red Wing Police are continuing to investigate the phone threat.
