Things To Do Locally For Spring Break
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Not everyone is able to take off for Florida and Mexico for spring break, but Minnesota residents are fortunate to live in a state where there are lots of fun things to do, not too far from home. And it's a good thing too, since the forecast for the next few weeks still calls for daily high temperatures at least 10 degrees below average for this time of year.
This week and next week lots of schools are closed for spring break, which leaves many parents wondering what to do with all that free time. Here are a few choice options.
Minneapolis Depot Water Park
if you just want a quick change of scenery for a day or night, you can check into the Residence Inn at the historic Depot on Washington Avenue right in the middle of downtown Minneapolis. They have special deal right now where you can get a Queen Studio suite for one night, plus water park passes for four people at the big indoor water park. In addition, they offer dinner for two adults and two kids at Charley's Grill, their evening buffet, and 20 arcade tokens. They will even throw in free parking, all for $159.
Nickelodeon Universe
The Mall of America's indoor amusement park is also a guaranteed good time for the kids, even for teenagers. Nickelodeon Universe has those popular wristbands that allow you to ride all day 'til you drop, at $23.99 each. That can add up if you have more than one kids, but from now through the end of April, you can stop into any participating Taco Bell location to pick up a coupon to save $7 on an unlimited ride wristband. That said, the Taco Bell inside the mall is not one of the participating locations.
Snow Tubing
Alright, winter is clearly not over in Minnesota. So why not use spring break to embrace the (fingers crossed) last of this season's snow? If you have a kid who loves the outdoors, consider going snow tubing for few hours one day. You can do it at most of the ski areas, like Buck Hill in Burnsville and at many of the county parks like Elm Creek Winter Recreation area in Maple Grove. You can go tubing at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis, as well. And many places have night lighting along the trails so you can even go in the evening. And what's really fun about it, is that really anyone can do it.
