Wild Take On Minn. Hockey Talent At Dev Week
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A scrimmage Saturday showed off Minnesota's young hockey talent during the Wild's developmental week.
Kyle Medvec, of Apple Valley, Minn., was thrilled to be in a Minnesota uniform. He is a big, rangy defenseman with upside, and he wants to stay on the Wild's radar.
"It's kind of a dream come true," Medvec said. "It's all coming together now."
The Wild just signed another player from Apple Valley, defenseman Mike Lundin. In fact, it was Lundin whom Medvec looked up to in high school.
Medvec said that seeing Lundin wear the number four jersey in high school made him want to wear it, too. And he did.
"Now that he's signed with Minnesota, I'm pretty excited to see him again," Medvec said.
J.T. Brown was another Minnesotan at Saturday's scrimmage who had some hope. He grew up in Rosemount.
He is the son of former Vikings running back Ted Brown, and he was a key part in Duluth's ride to the national hockey title.
He was an invitee, which means that all he wanted to do was prove he's worthy to play with the best. Like many at the scrimmage, he wanted to show that he deserves a chance to chase his NHL dream.
"This is just going to be a learning experience for me," Brown said. "And hopefully I can learn something from it."
