Wander Minnesota: Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Making Spirits Bright

One of my favorite places to visit at the holidays is the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. The McGuinn Great Hall in the Oswald Visitor Center is the home of several beautifully decorated Christmas trees, often including items found on the Arboretum grounds. There's also the enormous annual poinsettia tree, so regal and vivid.

This year, one of the trees was decorated by the Minnesota Herb Society, which tends the Arboretum's herb gardens during the summer. The theme chosen by the Society for its tree is birds, and the Society used that theme to create felted birds, birds' nests and houses and ornaments. They also used a variety of natural materials to decorate the ornaments, including birch bark, sumac, sweet grass, loofah, sage, gourds, pine cones, and seeds, among other items.

There will be live music this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 20-21, at the Arboretum. Enjoy a glimpse of the sights you could enjoy by making a visit there this weekend.
