Survey: Nearly 60 Percent Of Americans Will Shop Thanksgiving Weekend
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – With Minnesota getting its first big snowfall Friday, it's time to start thinking about holiday shopping.
According to a new survey, nearly 60 percent of Americans plan to get some of their shopping done on Thanksgiving weekend.
The survey, by the National Retail Federation, estimates 137.4 million people are planning to or considering hitting stores during the busiest shopping weekend of the year.
Twenty-one percent of weekend shoppers plan to shop on Thanksgiving Day, according to the survey. Nearly half of shoppers plan to spend on Small Business Saturday, and 24 percent expect to shop Sunday.
Black Friday remains the busiest day of the weekend, with 74 percent of shoppers planning to head out to take advantage of the deals.
The survey also shows millennials plan to hit the stores in droves. Seventy-seven percent of 18 to 24-year-olds plan to shop Thanksgiving weekend, as well as 76 percent of 25 to 34-year-olds.
Cyber Monday, a day of online sales that takes place the week after Thanksgiving, is not included in the weekend projections, but 36 percent of respondents say they plan to shop online that day.
