Teen Pleads Guilty To Shooting That Killed Nizzel George
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty Friday afternoon to the June shooting that killed 5-year-old Nizzel George, who was sleeping on his grandmother's couch in North Minneapolis when a bullet came through the wall and struck him, authorities say.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office said Stephon Shannon -- one of the suspects in the shooting -- pleaded guilty in connection with George's death on June 26, 2012.
Shannon was indicted in Hennepin County Court in August on multiple murder charges.
The other suspect, 15-year-old Julian Kijuan Lamar Anderson, also faces multiple murder charges and was certified in October to be tried as an adult.
Anderson and Shannon are accused of shooting into the house of George's grandmother, located on the 4500 block of Bryant Avenue North. The teens allegedly fired six bullets at the house, one of which struck George. He was two months away from his sixth birthday and about to enter first grade.
