Teen Charged With 2nd Degree Murder In St. Cloud
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (WCCO) -- Prosecutors charged a 16-year-old with second degree murder Monday in connection to a stabbing in St. Cloud last week.
Muhiyadin Mohamed Hassan was charged in a Stearns County Court, during a motion by prosecutors to try him as an adult. He could face up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
According to the charges, the incident began at around 1:41 a.m. early Friday morning, when police responded to reports of a fight involving a knife. When they arrived on scene, they found an man lying in the street, bleeding from an apparent stab wound to the chest. Paramedics later pronounced him dead at the scene.
Court documents say officers found Hassan just a few blocks south of the incident. Witnesses positively identified Hassan as the assailant shortly thereafter, and he later admitted to stabbing the victim during a fight. Police recovered the knife nearby.
Hassan's next court appearance is set for July 6.
