Teen Bicyclist Struck, Killed In Crash
MINNETONKA, Minn. (WCCO) -- St. Louis Park School District officials have identified the teenage bicyclist who was struck and killed in a crash in Minnetonka Wednesday.
He was 18-year-old Andrew Dudley, a senior at St. Louis Park High School who was set to graduate this spring.
Principal Robert Metz called the incident heartbreaking.
"I feel terrible for Andrew's family most of all," he said. "We're doing our best to assist our students and staff as they process this tragedy."
A car hit Dudley as he biked out of a parking lot at Shady Oak Road and Excelsior Boulevard. According to police, the crash happened around 8:30 p.m.
Dudley was a happy-go-lucky kid, Metz said.
"(He was) very interested in skateboarding, and I'm told by his counselor that one of his life's dreams was to open his own skateboarding shop," Metz said.
Counselors are on hand at school today for Dudley's classmates.
Dudley's is the second death that's hit St. Louis Park High School in just over a week. Last Tuesday, assistant girls basketball coach Joel Koch died of a heart attack.
"We've had quite a couple weeks here," Metz said.
A prayer service was scheduled for Thursday night at Dudley's church — Cross of Glory Baptist Church in Hopkins. The service was planned for 5 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities said it does not appear alcohol was involved.
