Father Found Shot Dead In Montgomery, Son Arrested
MONTGOMERY, Minn. (WCCO) -- Investigators say they have taken a teenager into custody after his father was found shot in the head in Montgomery, Minn.
The incident happened at about 11 p.m. on Monday on the 10600 block of Le Sueur Avenue.
According to the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office, officers found 48-year-old Richard Joseph Nelson dead at the scene. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators said they were able to locate a suspect quickly and take him into custody. Chief Deputy Dave Tietz identified him as 18-year-old Jonas David Nelson, the dead man's son.
The son called 911 call from inside the house where the shooting took place. Police say he told operators that he shot and killed his father. No one else was home at the time.
The killing comes as a shock to the tight-knit community.
"That's crazy," said Tyler Scofield Veseli, who works at a gas station in town. "I had no idea."
Police say they haven't been called to the house for problems before and that Jonas David Nelson doesn't have a criminal history.
Investigators are currently trying to figure out why a son would kill his father.
There is no risk to the public, according to the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office.
