Task Force: Man Flees Cops, Drives Into Squad Car
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A traffic stop in St. Cloud ended with a suspect driving his vehicle into a squad car Wednesday evening, authorities say.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. when St. Cloud officers tried to pull over 21-year-old Daniel Stanger near the 400 block of 33rd Avenue North, the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force said.
Stanger refused to pull over, and the officers gave chase. Stanger then made several evasive moves and drove for more than two blocks before steering his vehicle into the side of a squad car.
Stranger's maneuver spun the squad car around. The officer driving, however, had the presence of mind to accelerate his squad and push Stanger's vehicle into the parking lot of a convenience store at the intersection of 33rd Avenue and 7th Street.
No one was injured in the incident, although both vehicles sustained considerable damage.
Officers arrested Stanger, and he is being held at the Stearns County Jail on charges of fleeing police.
The incident happened while task force members were conducting undercover drug operations.
